How it all began
In 2020, Grace Assembly celebrated her 70th anniversary. We thank God for how His faithfulness and miraculous providence has always allowed Grace Assembly to be a blessing to her members and the communities near and far.

1950
Missionaries Valence and Lula Baird felt led by the Lord to start a mission in the newly erected single-storey terrace shophouse built by Singapore Improvement Trust at 50 Odin Square, off Alexandra Road.
1952
Sis Lau Chen To took over from the Bairds who had to go on furlough. Sis Chen To’s frequent visits to the hospitals laid the foundations of a strong Mandarin ministry
1954
Rev. Jean K. Wagner, an appointed missionary from the Assemblies of God HQ, Missouri, U.S.A. was sent as replacement to the Alexandra Mission in late 1954. Together with Sis Chen To, they grew the congregation to fifty and were compelled to find a larger location
1958
A property at 355 Tanglin Road was put up for public auction by the bank. The church prayed fervently about the acquisition of the property. Rev. Wagner went to the auction, not knowing how the church could compete in the bidding. For some unknown reasons, the auction was postponed twice. Because of the postponements, no one was present at the third auction except Rev. Wagner and the negotiation with the bank settled the 41,000 sq. ft. land at $40,000 then, which is an impossible price tag today. The congregation moved into the new location & the church was renamed Grace Assembly, as it was by God’s grace that we had the property.
1962
Rev. David Nyien, Rev. Wagner’s adopted son, took over the church after her passing. Grace Assembly continued to grow and expand her premises on 355 Tanglin Road.
1966
Rev. Oh Beng Khee was installed as the next pastor of the church. Under Rev. Oh’s leadership, he led several building extension projects including the rebuilding of the sanctuary as well as the addition of the education block. Rev. Oh also pioneered several satellite and house churches.
1990
Rev. Dr David Lim was installed as the new Senior Pastor of Grace Assembly as Rev. Oh stepped down to concentrate on missions work.
2004
The church put in a successful bid for a piece of land at 1 Bukit Batok West Avenue 4 to build a new campus to accommodate the growing congregation and to be a blessing to the western region of Singapore. Grace@BukitBatok was eventually opened in August 2006.
2012
Rev. Calvin Lee succeeded Rev. Dr David Lim as the next Senior Pastor of Grace Assembly with a renewed focus on loving God, loving people & living life missionally. Under Rev. Calvin’s tenure, he oversaw the redevelopment of the entire Grace@Tanglin campus from 2012 to 2015 as well as the improvement works in Grace@BukitBatok from 2017 to 2019. The redevelopment of Grace@Tanglin was a project of much provision by the Lord through the generous giving of Gracians.
2020
Rev. Dr Wilson Teo’s first year as the Senior Pastor was rocked by the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Like all believers, Gracians also had to grapple with the new ways of attending church and meeting with the community alone. Even as the methods may change, the message of Christ & the purpose of Grace Assembly has not changed – we still yearn to see “More People, More Like Jesus!”
